SLDASM- SolidWorks Assembly File

What is? SLDASM File Format and How to Open it?

SLDASM is one of the file formats SolidWorks 3D CAD runs on. Apart from keeping a three-dimensional assembly of parts and components—which might also contain sub-assemblies—it also preserves information about the relationships among components, the features of components, and other specifics. The program uses this container structure to host a collection of components, parts, and sub-assemblies.

A 3D assembly project saved in SolidWorks generates SLDASM files upon user save. The file format enables size and shape as well as correct representation of three-dimensional components including their dimensions, colors, and textures. One SLDASM file contains an individual assembly that might later be produced in several formats for use in 3D printing or other uses.

One can access SLDASM files by using SolidWorks, a 3D computer-aided design (CAD) tool compatible with both Windows and macOS. Many professionals from the disciplines of engineering, product design, and manufacturing use the program. For those who show interest, there is also a free student edition. Once published in SolidWorks, the sub-assemblies and components can be changed and manipulated in anyhow one wishes.

SLDASM files can also be accessed with many other third-party programs. Included in this category are both Autodesk’s 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software and DraftSight, a 2D CAD tool with an abundance of capabilities. You can download both of these programs including Windows and macOS versions. On the other hand, the editing and modification features will be limited while accessing SLDASM files using an outside program.
