What is? SHP File Format and How to open it?
The SHP file format is a vector data storage mechanism for geographic information system (GIS) applications. Designed and under management by Esri as a (mostly) open protocol for data interchange among Esri and other GIS products,
An A.SHP file stores geographic features in a vector form; data points, lines, and polygons are compiled under coordinates. It also maintains related DBF files with relevant attribute data. Shapefiles are commonly referred to as the SHP file format due to the SHP file extension.
Often used for mapping projects, various GIS systems including ArcGIS, MapInfo, and QGIS actively support the SHP file format. Back also are many other programs such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, and CorelDRAW.
The first imports into the GIS system are A.SHP files. Choose “Open,” then look for the wanted SHP file to open the File menu. One could inspect and change the items in the SHP file once imported.
