What is? IFC File Format and How to Open it?
Established by the buildingSMART company, the sector Foundation Classes (IFC) file type is a data transfer standard. Its goal is to let several building-related software applications share data with one another. Established by buildingSMART, this data format is an open standard. It is built on the STEP data format, sometimes known as the Standard for the Exchange of Product model data.
The IFC style is applied in order to characterize three-dimensional architectural models and the related elements, like walls, windows, doors, ceilings, and other components. Apart from facilitating the interaction among architects, engineers, and other professionals engaged in the design and construction of buildings to share their work, the International File (IFC) standard was developed to streamline the data flow between several software programs and platforms.
From many different firms, IFC files—which are stored in either an ASCII or binary format—may be viewed with a broad range of tools. Among the well-known tools able to open and modify IFC files concurrently are Autodesk Revit, Nemetschek Allplan, Graphisoft ArchiCAD, and Tekla Structures. Furthermore, some web applications and services may look over and translate IFC files available on the internet.
Apart from its general use in the sectors of engineering and architecture, the IFC structure is also becoming more and more popular in other sectors including manufacturing and game development. A major element of the buildingSMART program, which aims to develop and spread open standards for the exchange of 3D building data, is this as well.
